PCS season is here and both excitement and anxiety are in the air! What are some simple things you can do to stay organized and best prepare for the big packing day?
I have 3 little tips that might help you with some of the stress. Don't forget to comment your own helpful tips!

Take out an extra bag of trash every week.
You have your normal trash... but we all know there is going to be extra stuff around the house you will want to throw out and not move with you. Whether you find stuff through the week or find it all on trash day... Get out an extra trash bag and start filling it!
Take Pictures and Videos of Your Belongings
It seems like no matter what you do, stuff gets lost in a move. Whether you use a company or move yourself, you'll want proof that your stuff wasn't damaged and all worked.
If this seems like a lot of work, start with your most valuable and expensive items. Take pictures of serial numbers and take videos of the items working. Take pictures of each area of your house to include smaller things.
Put all of your photos and videos in a folder and back up somewhere. This is great for insurance anyway! Try to keep a household inventory that you only have to update when you move.
Label Boxes (and document in a binder)
Try to make sure your boxes are properly labeled with what is inside. Once everything is boxed, try to take a picture of each box so you can check off which ones make it to the other side.
Here are some different ways to go about this:
Use moving labels like these. The color coding will help every box get to the right room when you reach your destination. Take a photo of each label (add important contents inside to the label).
In your PCS binder, keep a tally of how many boxes are labeled for each room. You can recount each box when you get there. The color labels would help with this as well.
You can also just try to track as much as you can and make it your own in your pcs binder.
*I also found it helpful to just go around on boxing day and take some videos in each room to refer back to. I could pause the video and see how many boxes as well as furniture was there. You can see the condition that the movers had stuff in too. EXTRA PROOF NEVER HURTS!
Bonust Tip! Bagging up and protecting things!
You may want to get some plastic or mattress protector covers to protect your furniture. Just be mindful of humidity and how it might affect your move and belongings if the plastic traps moisture.
2-gallon Ziplock bags are the best! You can get 2 gallon and 2.5 gallon bags and fill them with loose items you don't want getting thrown into random boxes (or risk something exploding/spilling).
Helpful Tools and Items for your PCS!
Here are some bonus items that I have found helpful in the past for moving!
Vacuum sealing storage bags. You can use these for pillows, blankets, clothes, or anything really! We like to use them for storing all the baby/kids clothes, as well as moving our blankets and pillows.
Stamp For Boxes/Belongings. Many people like to create a stamp with their name, phone number, email, and/or new address in case boxes get lost. Believe it or not, I've heard stories of families ending up with another family's parts box a whole year later! Crazy things happen, and it might help you get that one lost box back!
Plastic Wrap. This wrap has a lot of different uses when it comes to your move. Use it to protect things, put things together, keep all of your shelves for one unit together, etc.
Moving Labels for labeling all those boxes! Even though the movers will try their best to label things, I found it so nice to have the colored labels at the other end of the move. When I went back through videos and photos, it also made it easier to identify how many boxes went to each room and how many to expect on the other side.
